Six years after receiving approval for a radio broadcasting licence, Touch Canada Broadcasting launched CJLI branded 700 AM the Light on June 29, 2015 in Calgary. Touch Canada Broadcasting, wholly owned by Charles R. Allard, now operates six Christian radio stations in Alberta under three different brands: three Shine FM stations in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, two The Light AM stations in Calgary and Edmonton and a Reach FM station in Grande Prairie.

The station joins its AM sister station CJCA in Edmonton and also its two cousins, Shine FM stations CJSI, at 88.9 FM in Calgary, CJRY at 105.9 FM in Edmonton and CKRD at 90.5 FM in Red Deer and Reach FM station at 96.3 FM in Grande Prairie.

In its CRTC application, CJLI proposed to offer a Southern Gospel and Inspirational music format that would draw a majority of its musical selections from non-classic religious content. The station intends to broadcast 37 hours and 44 minutes of spoken word programming, including news, weather, sports and business reports as well as community updates each week. In addition, 28 hours a week will be devoted to religious programming.

In its mission statement posted to its Facebook page, the new station promises to “make a positive impact on peoples’ lives, offering encouragement through the gospel of Jesus Christ in song, praise and spoken word in a safe and fun radio environment. Our stations will be a catalyst for bringing the good news to non-believers and believers across all denominations, while providing a practical advertising opportunity.”

Touch Canada Broadcasting is owned by Charles R. Allard, son of Dr. Charles Allard, founder of radio station CHQT (now owned by Corus Entertainment and branded iNews880) and television station CITV, Western Canada’s first independent TV station (now owned by Shaw and branded Global TV Edmonton).
